Report on: The drama festival of Gimnazija Jesenice

February 2020

Introduction:

This report is penned by a Gimnazija Jesenice student with a goal to present the two-day events general info, programme and atmosphere. Comments on the experience are also featured. It is made to fulfill the necessities of the ITS-subject and is posted on 4-je izGimJes website.

General info:

Dramski festival is a yearly event presented by the entire community of Gimnazija Jesenice. Its rather humble beginnings started in the year 2012. Only three performances were given back then, but were well received and the drama festival has been held in the theatre of Tone Čufar ever since. Now there are usually at least 6 plays performed on 2 days consecutively. Students of Gimnazija Jesenice organize themselves into groups made up of schoolmates of the same year and prepare plays with no outside help rather than basic guidance. Teachers themselves have their own group.

Programme:

This year’s Dramski festival featured 4 plays on the first and 3 plays on the second day, when the award ceremony was also held. The first day had plays performed by students of 1.B, 2.A, 2.C and 3.B. They were called Roman pa Julka by the group Dratšponarji, Sum by the group Soleils, Hodnik by the group Amaterski Kaos Dijakov and Kdaj smo zdej? By the group Lubicebubice. The second day had plays performed by 3.A, 4.A and the professor group. They were called Zadnja večerja by the group Navihanci, Izdevete simfonije by the team Šacijini angelčki and Smešna zgodba o doktorju Faustu by the professor group Teater. Award ceremony followed and the play Kdaj smo zdej won the best play award. Each group won at least one award, whether it was for the best actor or best scene.

Atmosphere:

Tone Čufar’s theatre boasts with an abundance of space on stage and has a large number of seats in the parterre as well as a balcony. Very few seats have a bad position and most of them face the stage directly. Plays were without noticeable hiccups. All of this contributed to the viewing pleasure and enhanced the experience.

Comments:

All together the event was well planned-out and executed. Plays were mostly smoothly paced and all participants had enough charisma. This is without a doubt one of the best school events and the audience is sure to be looking forward to the next one.
