Schools in Slovenia focus on teaching from pure theory way too much. I think that learning from experience gained in working on projects better prepares you for a life of work. There are very few jobs that don’t require constant adaptation to the tasks at hand. As a human resource, it is necessary to focus on a given problem and solve it. Basic education in Slovenia nevertheless lasts for 9 years and focuses on theoretical learning way too much.

I think that teamwork is today more important than it has ever been. Working on a group project such as a play or making a website gives students a chance to significantly improve their communication skills. It also builds trust and tests patience which is needed when working with people who use a different approach when encountering a problem. Working on a project by yourself is also beneficial, because you cannot always rely on a broader group to do some of the work. It also strengthens your will and boosts self-esteem.

My classmates and I recently participated in Dramski festival which is a group project organized by Gimnazija Jesenice. Through good communication and teamwork we could perform a play in front of a big audience and in the process, we improved our listening and speaking skills. Ultimately this project made us better students.

I think that even having to work on just a few projects, would greatly benefit students. They would become more efficient, focused and mature. Big problems need to be solved and it can be done if we learn from the smaller ones.
