HOW CORONAVIRUS AFFECTS LIFE AT JESENICE GRAMMAR SCHOOL

INTRODUCTION

This report discusses how coronavirus affects life at Jesenice grammar school. As a student of Jesenice grammar school, I will present the situation, the organisation, the problems and my personal opinion on the current situation. This report was written as a part of ITS lessons, for everyone who is interest in this topic.

THE SITUATION

Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus, all educational institutions in Slovenia are closed, including the Jesenice grammar school. Students have to stay at home and as a result classes are conducted at a distance.

THE ORGANISATION

At the Jesenice grammar school work begins every Monday when the teachers send weekly assignments to the students and at the same time set the deadline for the submission of performed assignments. Therefore, students can plan their work for an entire week. With some teachers, students have the opportunity to arrange a video meeting via Zoom app. One of the assignments, for example, is that, students have to be physically active at least 135 minutes a week.

THE PROBLEMS

At the beginning there were a lot of problems that were gradually solved. Students were given too many assignments for one week, furthermore the instructions were sometimes vague and insufficient. Each student was and still is forced to have a good self-organization, without which he would quickly overlook any of the instructions. While studying, some problems may arise, which are hard to resolve, without consulting the teachers. In addition, students find it difficult to understand some subjects without the teacher’s explanation. One of the major problems is also inequality. Students have different opportunities to work from home and that is hardly fair.

MY PERSONAL OPINION

The affect coronavirus has on school life is remarkable. Students cannot come to school and have a normal learning process with help and explanation of the teachers. They have to learn by themselves with the help of the internet and books. But on the other hand, there are also positive sides. By not having to get up so early, students save time and are less sleepy. All in all, I think life during coronavirus is more relaxed and less stressful.
